Agios Vasileios in Niochori , Lefktro

Agios Vasileios at Niochori, Lefktro is a small, single nave, barrel-vaulted church, built mainly with rubble masonry and bricks in horizontal layers, and with limited ceramoplastic brick decoration. The use of a 6th cent AD ionic capital as an altar is of great interest, since archaeological evidence of the early byzantine period is sparse in Messenian Mani. The church is tentatively dated to the 13th century.
