Agios Georgios in Aipeia

Agios Georgios in Aipeia belongs to the type of the cross-vaulted church, lacking a narthex, with a three-sided apse at the east. The cloisonné masonry is decorated with a dented band at the upper part of the walls. Two impressive bilobe gothic windows are opened on the drums of the transverse aisle; combined with the immured plates and other structural features, they make the church part of the so-called frankobyzantine monuments, leading to a date in the second half of the 13th century.

A post byzantine depiction of the eponymous saint can be seen above the main entrance at the west wall of the church. The porous slabs of the floor were put in place in the late 19th century. The wood-carved templon and the despotic icons are of the same period. Fragments of wall paintings of the 13th century survive in the interior. Later wall paintings (1903) cover the apse. Some of the faces of the earlier wall paintings were painted over at the same period.
