Debriz castle and Venetian bridge

Debriz castle lies ruined on a low hill, 500m to the west of Strefi near Velikas river, 1km south of the Venetian bridge with the same name. The bridge was an important hub on the old route from Androusa to Navarino. The main reason for the construction of the castle was the protection of the border, since, during the Francocracy (Frankish period), the region was on the border between the barony of Kalamata and the Venetian-ruled region of Avrami. The name Debriz is used for the castle, the Strefeiko bridge and the ruins of a Venetian watermill not far from the castle. The castle occupies the top of a forested hill. Its outline is not clear, being overgrown with vegetation. It covers an area of 0.35 ha. The central tower stands at the top and is visible from a distance. Piles of stones and architectural remains are visible in the surrounding area.
