Memi tower

Not far from the beaches Agios Georgios and Memi, between Koroni and Vasilitsi, rises a narrow, round tower-like building. The tower-lookout is in direct visual contact with Koroni’s castle and it seems that it was used as an supervision post, being the first in a series of buildings of a communication network between the castles of Koroni and Methoni. It is built with rubble masonry, with frequent, if random, use of bricks. It is preserved at a considerable height, consisting of a ground floor and a first floor. The top level has a flat roof, with only two of the original crenellations surviving. There is no evidence concerning the date of the watchtower in Memi. Taking into account the region’s history, it is probably a Venetian construction of the 14th century.
