As part of the celebration of the European Heritage Days 2025, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messinia will hold a thematic educational event on Friday, October 3rd, and Saturday, October 4th, 2025, entitled:
“Mavrozoumaina: The Mysteries of a Bridge.”

The activity on October 3rd is addressed to primary school students, while the event on October 4th is intended for the general public.
Its purpose is to introduce participants to the Bridge of Mavrozoumaina, a listed monument of the Ministry of Culture and a significant engineering work of the Hellenistic period, which has been preserved to this day.

The educational action focuses on the timelessness of the monument and its connection with Ancient Messene, the architecture and function of the bridge, the natural environment of the area and the importance of rivers, as well as on raising awareness for the preservation, protection, and promotion of cultural heritage.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Management of the University of the Peloponnese, the Municipality of Oichalia, and the Kalamata Friends of Music Association “Armonia.”

Meeting point (October 3rd & 4th):
Mavrozoumaina Bridge, Neochori, Municipality of Oichalia, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a visit to the Digital Cultural Park of the Municipality of Oichalia in Meligalas.
Duration: approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Participation in the event on October 4th is free of charge, with prior telephone registration.
