Agioi Theodoroi, Kampos

The church of Agioi Theodoroi is located centrally in the village of Kampos Avias, to the right of the road leading to Kardamyli. It belongs to the domed, two-column cross-in-square type. A monumental arched propylon is formed on the west side, in front of the main entrance. The elaborate masonry consists of hewn porous stones and sporadically interlaid bricks. Notable byzantine sculptures have been incorporated in various spots.
Based on morphological and construction details, it seems that the church was built during the second Venetocracy (1685-1715). The interior is decorated throughout with wall paintings, dated by a founding inscription to 1760, painted by the well-known workshop of Nomitsi. The wood-carved templon (screen or iconostasis) is one of the most notable woodworking examples in Mani during the second half of the 18th century.
