Agios Andreas in Loga

The church of Agios Andreas is located in the coastal settlement Loga, very close to the main road from Petalidi to Koroni. The monument has a complex history. Its initial phase has been dated by some scholars to the middle byzantine period, but an earlier date is not unlikely. Originally the church was a three-aisle basilica, possibly timber-roofed. During the middle byzantine period (10th century) it was modified into a domed cross-in-square of the so-called transitional type. Today the church has been limited to the long arm of the cross.

The dome has collapsed and in the corner sections only the roots of the arches are preserved. An impressive arch projects in the east. The partly preserved ceramoplastic decoration is made with immured terracotta elements (opus reticulatum). No traces of wall paintings have survived. The church has been severely altered, both inside and outside, by a series of erratic modifications.
