This small castle lies 1km north of Velika, in the municipality of Messene, to the left of the road between Velika and Neochori. It is built on a low hill, with Velika river to its west-southwest and a smaller stream to the east-southeast. The hill is lushly vegetated, which limits access. The castle has never been properly investigated. It is probably one of the small castles built by the Franks and the Venetians in the early 15th century, under the pressure of the ottoman attacks. A large tower of square plan is best preserved. To its north, a few dozen meters away, one can see part of a fortification that was apparently built to protect this side of the hill. The small fort occupies a crucial site for the control of the overland route that connected the edges of the fertile messenian plain with the bay of Navarino. Part of this road is still preserved below the castle of Velika, alongside the riverbed of the named river.
